Margo Kilkenny of Halo Hair Design shares her insight ahead of International Women's Day

This International Women in Business Day, we’re celebrating the incredible talent and entrepreneurship of women in Longford.

Seven local business leaders have shared their insights, experiences, and reflections, offering a glimpse into the creativity, resilience, and vision that drive their businesses.

Each story is unique, yet together they showcase the remarkable contributions women are making to the business community in Longford and beyond.

Margo Kilkenny - Halo Hair Design

1. What first sparked the idea for your business?

My passion for hair started at a young age, but what truly sparked the idea for my business was the desire

to create a space where women feel seen, heard and confident. I didn’t just want to “do hair” — I wanted to build an experience.

A calm, professional environment where education, luxury and personalised care come together. I saw a gap for a more tailored, results-driven approach to hair and scalp health, and I knew I wanted to lead that space.

2. How would you describe what your business does best?

We specialise in transformative, high-end colour and healthy hair results. What we do best is combine advanced consultation, scalp analysis and bespoke treatments with modern, wearable colour.

Every client’s hair journey is unique, and we pride ourselves on delivering not only beautiful hair, but long-term hair health.

3. What advice would you tell yourself if you were starting over?

Trust yourself sooner. Growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone — whether that’s investing in education, raising your prices to reflect your worth, or setting boundaries.

I would remind myself that confidence is built through action, not perfection.

4. Where do you see the business heading next?

The future is about continued growth, innovation and education. I see the business expanding its reputation as a specialist salon for scalp health and luxury colour, while continuing to elevate the client experience.

I’m passionate about staying at the forefront of industry knowledge and bringing advanced treatments and techniques to the salon.

5. Do you have a personal motto you live by?

Elevate everything you do.

Whether it’s the service, the standard, the education or the mindset — always raise the bar. As women in business, we are capable of extraordinary impact when we lead with confidence, integrity and passion.
