This International Women in Business Day, we’re celebrating the incredible talent and entrepreneurship of women in Longford.
Seven local business leaders have shared their insights, experiences, and reflections, offering a glimpse into the creativity, resilience, and vision that drive their businesses.
Each story is unique, yet together they showcase the remarkable contributions women are making to the business community in Longford and beyond.
Siobhán Cronogue - Longford PPN Co-ordinator
1. How did you get involved in your current role?
My background is in Project Management, which naturally led me into community development. Project management is about structure, delivery and accountability — and community work requires those same skills, just with people at the centre.
When the opportunity arose to work for Longford County Council establishing and managing Longford Public Participation Network (PPN), it felt like the perfect fit, combining strategy with grassroots engagement.
2. How would you describe what your role does best?
Our role is about connection and representation. Through Longford PPN, we ensure community groups have a voice at the table when decisions are made at local government level.
We support groups to access funding, build networks and strengthen governance. Ultimately, we amplify local voices and ensure community is at the heart of policy discussions.
3. What advice would you tell yourself if you were starting over?
Back yourself sooner. Women often wait until they feel fully ready, but growth happens when you step forward. Leadership doesn’t have to be loud — consistency, preparation and empathy are powerful strengths.
4. Where do you see yourself heading next?
I want to continue strengthening participation locally, particularly encouraging more women and younger people to see themselves in leadership roles.
5. Do you have a personal motto you live by?
“Lead with integrity and follow through.” It’s important that words are matched with action, especially when working with and representing communities.
