This International Women in Business Day, we’re celebrating the incredible talent and entrepreneurship of women in Longford.
Seven local business leaders have shared their insights, experiences, and reflections, offering a glimpse into the creativity, resilience, and vision that drive their businesses.
Each story is unique, yet together they showcase the remarkable contributions women are making to the business community in Longford and beyond.
1. What first sparked the idea for your business?
When I qualified in 2015, job opportunities weren't too plentiful. I spent my first year qualified working in a different place every day of the week. I had no job security in any of the places I was in so I thought why not put all this hard work and effort into my own business.
I had always planned to open my own private practice but I just didn't know it would be so early on in my career. I was 24 when I opened the doors to Happy Feet Podiatry Clinic.
2. How would you describe what your business does best?
Happy Feet Podiatry Clinic aims to offer evidence based foot care to people of all ages in a calm, professional, comfortable setting. I am always striving to keep up to date with best practices.
I want people to leave their appointment feeling listened to and supported.
3. What advice would you tell yourself if you were starting over?
To not stress as much. I am a natural overthinker and can be very hard on myself. It is both a blessing and a curse.
4. Where do you see the business heading next?
I have recently had the privilege of a second Podiatrist joining the team - Mairéad Martin. The hope is that we can offer faster access to the service in the long run.
I want to continue adding evidence based treatment options to our service offering and have a few courses in mind to do over the next 12 months or so.
I am blessed with an incredible team around me with two wonderful receptionist - Sinéad Croghan and Siobhàn Brady and also Mairéad - our second podiatrist so I want to continue fostering a happy environment for us all to work in.
5. Do you have a personal motto you live by?
A motto I go back to time and time again is 'Do something your future self will thank you for'. I apply this to every aspect of my life - from going to the gym when I feel too tired, to completing tasks on my (often never-ending) to do list, to trying something new even when it scares me.
It stops me procrastinating. I need to apply it a little better in some aspects of my life but overall it is a motto that has really served me well.
