Helen’s Journey: From Challenge to Opportunity
1. What first sparked the idea for your business?
After co-founding a property business in 2004, which was impacted by the 2007/2008 recession, I established Helen McCormack Estate Agents in 2009 with a raw determination to persevere.
The collapse of the sales market was seismic, but I believed opportunity still existed. In many ways, it became a level playing field—nobody had an advantage—and I saw possibility in that.
Coming from a strong property sales background, I recognised the opportunity within the lettings and management sector. This offered stability while the market reset, and I believed firmly that the sales market would return.
2. How would you describe what your business does best?
We build long-term, trusting relationships. Property is fundamentally about people. We protect our clients’ interests through clear advice, strong systems, and continuous learning, delivering a personal and professional service where each property truly matters.
3. What advice would you tell yourself if you were starting over?
Always stay focused. A successful peer once told me his biggest mistake was thinking, ‘Now I’ve made it.’ He took his eye off the ball and was quickly overtaken. That stayed with me.
4. Where do you see the business heading next?
Continuing to invest in team development so the right people are in the right roles, embracing digital innovation, and strengthening our visibility in Limerick. I am particularly proud of our recently developed SELLWISE Strategy and our #LimerickLiving series. The focus is on continuously adding value to our clients and raising professional standards.
5. Do you have a personal motto you live by?
Keep looking straight ahead—and do your best to stay thankful in both good times and bad.
