Thousands of homes, farms and businesses across Ireland are without power this Saturday morning after Storm Claudia left her mark on many parts of the country.

Some transport services - particularly in the greater Dublin area - have also been impacted as the clean-up operation continues.

Met Éireann has lifted the various weather warnings that had been in place - including a status orange rain warning for Dublin, Wexford and Wicklow.

In advance of Storm Claudia's arrival, the forecaster had warned members of the public to be alert for “significant” flooding and hazardous travelling conditions.

Keith Leonard, national director for Fire and Emergency Management, said local authorities had been preparing since Thursday for heavy rainfall.

According to ESB Networks, around 3,000 customers were without electricity as of 9am and efforts are continuing to restore supplies as soon as possible.

Local authority crews remain on standby and assessments are being carried out in areas which were worst impacted by the storm.

While the weather warnings have been lifted, Met Éireann says it will be "rather wet and breezy" this Saturday morning with outbreaks of rain and drizzle and some mist patches.

"Some sunny spells will develop in the south during the afternoon along with well scattered showers. Elsewhere will stay mostly cloudy but becoming drier as the rain becomes patchier. Fresh to strong northeasterly winds will ease light to moderate by early afternoon," reads the latest forecast.

Highest temperatures of 7 to 14 degrees can be expected.
