Rooted in Sustainability: Rigneys Farm Wins Green Award at County Finals

Rigneys Farm has been recognised for their long-standing commitment to sustainability, winning the Green/Sustainability Award at the 2026 Local Enterprise Awards County Final. Part of the National Enterprise Awards, the ceremony was held at Engine on Cecil Street in Limerick and took place on March 27.  This marks a proud milestone for the family-run Limerick business.

The award coincides with another significant anniversary for Rigneys Farm, as 2026 marks 21 years since the family first opened their farmhouse as a B&B in Curraghchase, Kilcornan. What began as a tentative plan to generate extra income, and to allow the founder to return to the workplace after several years as a stay-at-home mother, has grown into an award-winning enterprise rooted in quality, innovation and sustainability.

Over time, the traditional B&B evolved into an experiential farmhouse stay, giving guests a deeper connection to food, farming and place. One of the most memorable aspects of that experience was breakfast, featuring sausages and bacon made from pigs reared on the farm itself. From this, Curraghchase Free Range Pork was born, sustaining the small farm for over 20 years and proving that a modest holding can thrive with the right vision.

As consumer expectations have changed, Rigneys Farm has continued to adapt, responding to growing demand for high-quality, ethically produced food with a genuinely green focus. Today’s customers, the business says, expect sustainability to be embedded at every level- something that has become central to how the farm operates.

Rigneys Farm have availed of the Green supports available through Local Enterprise Limerick, including the Green for Business and Energy Efficiency grants and claim these were instrumental in helping them achieve their sustainability goals.

Rigneys Farm now supplies its well-known sausages to outlets such as the Strand Hotel in Limerick, the Urban Co-Op, Miltown Health Store in Kerry, Killaloe Farmers Market and, shortly, Ennis Farmers Market. Its expanding range of granolas, cookies, energy snacks and distinctive crackers are also gaining national recognition, stocked in independent retailers across the country and served in high-end hotels such as Inchydoney Lodge & Spa, Dunmore House Hotel and once again, the Strand Hotel.

Reflecting on the journey, the family notes that meeting guests and customers over the years, and learning from conversations around their table, has shaped the business as much as farming itself. The Green Award, they say, reflects not just where Rigneys Farm is today, but the values that have guided it from the very beginning.
