Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned player, there's a place for you at Carrickmacross Tennis Club.
Located in the heart of Co Monaghan, it is accessible and very convenient if travelling from adjoining counties.
The club (phase 1) was opened on the grounds adjacent to Mannan Castle Golf Club, Donaghmoyne in July 2022. This followed a major fund raising drive and also a Sports Capital Grant.
The club was officially opened by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys in August 2022.
A further round of fund raising and a second Sports Capital Grant allowed the club to complete phase 2 of development in 2025.
The club currently has three floodlit artificial clay courts, a junior/pickleball court, a practice wall and a small pavilion. In addition, members have use of the facilities at the golf clubhouse.
A friendly club atmosphere encompasses the club's mission statement, "to develop a tennis club which serves the community, promotes the wellbeing of its families and provides an opportunity for the development of high quality tennis players from juniors through to seniors"
While improving fitness and meeting new friends, members of Carrickmacross Tennis Club are supported throughout the year. The club offers a wide variety of activities suitable for all ages and abilities.
Social Tennis Evening occurs every Tuesday 7pm-9pm, where members and non-members play at beginner and intermediate level. This allows members to socialise and play tennis, while offering non-members the opportunity to try tennis for a limited time without committing to joining.
Women's Social Morning also takes place every Thursday 11am-12.30pm and non-members are also welcome for a limited time without commitment to join the club.
With ITF certified coaches, we provide coaching for all levels and help everyone improve their game to the level they choose.
Junior coaching is offered and enjoyed on Saturday mornings. Easter and Summer camps are increasing in popularity with details and dates advertised in plenty of time for holiday plans. Adult coaching is also available at various times during each week.
The club also works with special needs groups or individuals, to provide an opportunity to participate in tennis.
Members can play social tennis, play regular in-house Round Robin competitions and also compete with club teams or in singles tournaments at Tennis Ireland Leinster Leagues.
The committee communicates with members via social media/email and there are many small WhatsApp groups for like minded groups. Calling out for games in such groups can be an efficient way to have a constant opportunity to play tennis.
Booking a tennis court is simple via the online AceBook system, in time slots from 30 to 90 minutes. Floodlights can be used at a small additional cost and allows year round tennis.
The forward thinking committee at Carrickmacross Tennis Club are constantly working to make improvements and this is reflected in the increasing membership numbers, requests for coaching and numbers attending Social Tennis Nights.
The club membership year runs from April 1 to March 31 and people can join on the website in categories such as adult, couple, family, student or junior.
Carrickmacross Tennis Club is a club of enthusiastic and ardent players. New members of all abilities and ages are always welcome.
“Sweat, determination and a little bit of tennis magic – that’s the recipe for success.”
