People First Credit Union launches Community Champions Award with €10k prize for local groups

People First Credit Union is delighted to announce the launch of the 2025 Community Champions Award, marking the third year of this prestigious initiative celebrating the dedication and impact of volunteer groups across the local community.

First introduced in 2022, the Community Champions Award recognises and supports the incredible work being done by volunteers within People First Credit Union’s common bond area. The overall winner will receive a €10,000 prize to help further their community-focused initiatives and create lasting, positive change.

The inaugural award honoured Portlaoise Tidy Towns in 2023 for their outstanding biodiversity project—an achievement that continues to inspire volunteerism and environmental stewardship across the region. The award was then won by Ballinakill Community Development Association in 2024 for their innovative Virtual Tour Project, which celebrated local heritage and strengthened community connection.

Our credit union is powered by the spirit of volunteerism,” said Carol Murphy, Marketing Manager at People First Credit Union. “It is with great pride that we continue the Community Champions Award for a third year, building on the success of Portlaoise Tidy Towns and Ballinakill Community Development Association with their remarkable projects. This award is our way of giving back to the people who make our communities stronger, greener, and more connected. Applicants are encouraged to highlight any elements of their project that contribute to sustainability, environmental awareness, or a positive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) impact.”

The application process for the 2025 Community Champions Award is simple and accessible. Volunteer groups within the People First Credit Union common bond area are invited to apply by completing the official application form, available via the People First Credit Union website: peoplefirstcu.ie/community/community-champions-award
