Man dies after assault in Dublin

A man in his 50s has died following an assault in Dublin.

Two women have been taken to hospital following the incident on Foster Terrace in the early hours of Saturday.

Shortly before 1.30am gardai and emergency services responded to reports of an assault.

The man was discovered with serious injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

A female in her 60s was taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injures and is awaiting discharge.

A second female in her 60s was taken to hospital for treatment for serious but non-life threatening injures.

The scene on Foster Terrace and a nearby property have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mountjoy Garda Station.

No arrests have been made.

Investigating gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the incident.

He said: “My thoughts are with those injured, and with the family and loved ones of the deceased at this extremely difficult time.

“The community in Ballybough is in shock, and I would appeal to anyone who may have information to contact An Garda Siochana to assist with their ongoing investigation.”
