A Celebration of Reading: Ennis Book Club Festival returns for it's 20th year

Ennis Book Club Festival is set to captivate audiences from March 6th to 8th, 2026, as it marks its 20th annual festival with a rich and varied programme of events for readers of all ages.

Renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and emphasis on shared reading, the festival continues to be a highlight of Ireland’s literary calendar.

From bestselling international authors and emerging Irish voices to poets, historians and non-fiction writers, the festival offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the people behind the pages.

Thought-provoking panel discussions, intimate interviews and lively debates will explore contemporary fiction and memoir alongside history, culture and current affairs.

The festival opens on Friday, March 6, with the authors of The Hare’s Corner – Making Space for Nature highlighting positive environmental change at community level, followed by environmentalist John Gibbons, who will propose pathways towards a more sustainable future.

Irish fiction takes centre stage with Michael Harding, Edel Coffey and Anna Carey in conversation with Declan Hughes, while the festival is honoured to host Anne Enright in conversation with Niamh Campbell on Saturday, March 8.

A heartfelt tribute will also celebrate the legacy of Nell McCafferty, honouring her trailblazing work as a journalist and campaigner. Historical fiction will be explored by Andrew Miller, Sarah Waters and Nuala O’Connor, while one of Ireland’s most acclaimed writers, Hugo Hamilton, will be in conversation with Éilís Ní Dhuibhne in the beautiful setting of St Columba’s Church.

Festival favourites return, including Ten Books You Should Read, hosted by Bryan Dobson and Cecelia Ahern, and a special live recording of Sunday Miscellany at glór on Sunday. Book club events include the Festival Book Club hosted by The Tired Mammy Book Club, and The Beyond Borders Book Club, led by Sarah Clancy, exploring international writing.

Additional highlights include New Perspectives in Writing with Wendy Erskine, Oona Frawley and Oisín Fagan, local authors Joe Queally, Michael Mc Tigue and Karen Fitzgibbon will discuss their work, a celebration of distinctive narratives with Chloe Michelle Howarth and Nicola Dinan, and Poetry 2026 at De Valera Library.

Whether you’re a long-time member of a local book club or someone who simply loves to read, the festival creates a relaxed and inclusive space where everyone is welcome. Events are shaped around the book club experience, encouraging audiences not just to listen, but to engage, question and discuss.

For readers looking to be inspired, challenged and entertained, Ennis in March is the place to be.
