As Storm Amy makes landfall 15 counties across Ireland are now under weather warnings

As Storm Amy makes landfall in Ireland, weather warnings are now in effect for 15 counties across the country.

County Kerry has been issued a Status Orange rain warning in effect from 6 am this morning until 8 pm tonight.

Cavan, Donegal, Longford, all of Munster and Connacht were also issued with Status Yellow rain warnings by Met Eireann from 6 am this morning until 8 pm tonight.

They have warned the likely impacts this adverse weather will be localised flooding possible, difficult travelling conditions and blocked drains. 

In their latest Storm Amy update, Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow Thunderstorm warning for County Galway now in effect  from 7:35 am until 12:30 pm.

They have warned of "some thunderstorms today with possible lightning damage" for the county.

A Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for the entirety of Ireland from 12:00 pm on Friday October 3 until 12:00 am on Saturday October 4.

Forecasters have warned that Storm Amy will bring near gale force winds to Ireland this weekend, explaining that: "severe and possibly damaging gusts will occur widely."

They have advised that Storm Amy: "will bring heavy rainfall with strong winds expected on Friday. A number of warnings will be issued today, with updates as certainty increases." 

Met Éireann is expected to continue to update its forecast and weather warnings for the Republic of Ireland throughout the day.
