Taylor Swift pays tribute to Elizabeth Taylor with new music video

Taylor Swift has paid tribute to Hollywood star Dame Elizabeth Taylor in her latest music video.

The video for the US pop star’s song, named after the late actress, was released on Apple Music and Spotify on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old singer does not star in the video – instead it consists of archive footage of Taylor with clips from some of her most popular films including Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? (1966).

Swift’s song plays over the footage of the Oscar-winning actress, which also features films such as Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1958), Suddenly Last Summer (1959) and Cleopatra (1963).

The London-born star, who died in 2011 aged 79, was one of the biggest movie stars of the 20th century and lived her life in the spotlight.

Taylor, who at one time was the highest-paid actress in the world, was also famed for her turbulent personal life, having been married eight times.

The actress was known for her charity work, activism and was a spokeswoman for humanitarian causes, most notably Aids research.

The end of the video includes a thank you to House of Taylor and the Elizabeth Taylor Trust, the Todd family and the Wilding family.

The song is the latest in a series of Swift songs referencing famous people, and contains lyrics referencing the film star with “violet eyes” and “white diamonds”.

Taylor was known for her unique eye colour and extensive jewellery collection, and also has a perfume called White Diamonds.

In an interview on the Elvis Duran Show last year, Swift spoke about her admiration of Taylor and called her “someone that I’ve looked up to”, hailing her as a “very glamorous, very beloved” figure.

The chart-topping pop star previously revealed she was inspired to write the track after a conversation with her fiance, American football player Travis Kelce.

Swift has also referenced Taylor in her music in the past, and acknowledged the actress’s famous relationship with Welsh actor Richard Burton in her track …Ready For It?

Elizabeth Taylor is the third single from record-breaking album The Life Of A Showgirl, which was released on October 3 last year.

The video is available to watch on Spotify and Apple Music, and will be uploaded to YouTube on Thursday.
