A pensioner has died after a road crash in Co Kildare.

The man, in his 80s, was involved in a single-vehicle incident on the Curragh Road in Kildare town at around 1.35pm on Wednesday afternoon.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The coroner was notified and the body of the man has been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The scene was subject to technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.”

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and were travelling in the area between 1pm and 2pm on Wednesday are asked to make the footage available to investigating gardai.
