Bill Murray vows to find the 'craic' as new road-trip show around Ireland announced

The BBC say the series will consist of six 30-minute episodes

The BBC have teed up a new road-trip show featuring Hollywood royalty Bill Murray exploring some of the finest golf courses Ireland has to offer.

The Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day star has been spotted regularly around Ireland in recent times even experiencing an intermediate hurling game in Clare. The BBC have commissioned the six-part series which consists of 30-minute episodes.

The show titled 'Off-course' (working title) will feature Murray taking in some of the most breathtaking fairways around the Emerald Isle as well as soaking up the best of Irish culture.

The series was inspired by Murray's long-time golfing companion Tom Coyne, who penned the New York Times bestselling book "A course called Ireland".

Along with Coyne, the Caddyshack actor will be joined on his Irish adventure by extended members of the Murray family as well as celebrity friends as they experience life, chance encounters and the joy of going gloriously off-course.

Reflecting on the premise behind the show, Murray said: "I started out caddying and golf was the best education I ever received. Ireland feels like the right place to put all that to work.

They've got this wonderful word there, 'craic' which means fun, but it means a lot of other things. A lot of good things and this show will be about us finding it".

Catherine Catton, Head of Factual Entertainment Commissioning and Events says: "This is a series full of humour, heart and adventure, set against the backdrop of some of the most beautiful backdrops imaginable - and we can't wait for audiences to come along for the ride with Bill".

The series is co-produced by independent production company Stellify Media and US production company Skydance Sports, which was recently announced as part of the newly formed Paramount sports entertainment.

Off-course will be shown on BBC Two and BBC One Northern Ireland with broadcasting dates yet to be announced.
