Una Healy joined Patrick Kielty on RTÉ’s Late Late Show on Friday night, where she unveiled a music project and spoke about the growing popularity of country music in Ireland.

The show also featured former Irish international and Ulster rugby player Andrew Trimble, podcasting duo Kevin Twomey and PJ Kirby, English comedian Tom Allen, and real-life love stories from First Dates Ireland ahead of Valentine’s Day.

During the show, Una Healy delivered a live musical performance and spoke about her upcoming new project, the rising popularity of country music in Ireland, and her experience as a finalist on Celebrity Bear Hunt.

She was on the show to launch an exciting new music competition, calling on aspiring singers to submit videos for a chance to become Ireland’s next country music star, with Healy acting as judge.

Speaking to Patrick Kielty, Una explained: “We’re looking for someone who’s a great singer, wants to perform, wants to be an artist, but hasn’t had the opportunity or platform to get out there.”

She revealed she will act as a judge on The Late Late Show in April once entrants have been shortlisted, adding she “will be looking for someone who’s original.”

“We’re looking for entries for people to send in videos of themselves singing. We don’t want any trickery involved, no autotune, just completely raw and organic,” Una added.

Entrants can perform an original song or a cover. Videos must be submitted online by March 17, with rehearsals and performances scheduled for April 16 and 17.

The winner will feature on the show’s next season Late Late Show Country Special.
