Serious electrocution risk from 114,000 circulating pumps in Irish homes, warns CCPC

Major safety alert issued as Tucson Pumps models made between 2017 and 2024 recalled under nationwide replacement programme

Serious electrocution risk from 114,000 circulating pumps in Irish homes, warns CCPC

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued an urgent safety alert after identifying a serious electrocution risk linked to 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems across Ireland.

The affected units are Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps manufactured between 2017 and 2024. While consumers can continue to use their heating systems as normal, they are warned not to handle the pump in any way, including disconnecting, adjusting or attempting maintenance.

A CCPC investigation, launched following a referral from the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), found that the mains cable of affected pumps may be connected in reverse, posing a serious risk of electrocution.

As a result, Tucson Pumps Ltd has announced a nationwide product replacement programme, allowing consumers to have their pump replaced free of charge by an approved technician.

Patrick Kenny, Member of the CCPC, described the issue as “one of the largest and most serious product safety alerts ever issued” and urged homeowners and tradespeople to check their heating systems immediately.

“If you’ve had work done on your heating system in the last eight years, check if you have one of these pumps. Do not touch it, just look for the Tucson brand and serial number and check it against the list on CCPC.ie,” he said.

Tradespeople are being warned of a particularly high risk during heating maintenance season, and retailers have been told to immediately stop sales of affected pumps.
