Hollywood actor Bill Murray brought a touch of Hollywood to the west of Ireland this weekend, attending a intermediate hurling championship clash.

Murray, best known for his roles in 'Ghostbusters' and 'Groundhog Day', is a frequent visitor to Ireland and has previously attended intercounty hurling games alongside JP McManus. This weekend, he was spotted cheering on a local club side 'Clarecastle', drawing attention from fans and players alike.

The club captured the moment in a light hearted statement:

"If Carlsberg did weekends in the Clare Hurling Championship … all three of our adult teams have now progressed to the knockout stages of championship. With our Premier Intermediates spurred on by Clarecastle superfan Bill Murray."

Murray’s visit was extra special as it coincided with his 75th birthday on Sunday. The actor celebrated the milestone over the  weekend by attending the match, adding a memorable Irish sporting moment to his milestone celebrations.

Fans quickly shared clips on social media, highlighting the unusual but joyful encounter. Murray’s presence highlights his long standing affection for Ireland and its sporting culture particularly hurling , adding an unexpected splash of Hollywood glamour to a weekend of club hurling.
