A post-mortem examination will be carried out at Cork University Hospital

A motorcyclist has died following an incident at a motocross event in Mount Vernon on Sunday afternoon. 

Gardai and paramedics from the National Ambulance Service attended the scene on the outskirts of Cork City around 1:30pm.

The man, who is aged in his 40s was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at Cork University Hospital. A Garda investigation is now underway surrounding the incident and the Coroner has been informed with an inquest to be held in due course.

It marks the fourth fatality in Cork in just a matter of days as a pedestrian was killed following a collision on Saturday night and a further two people lost their lives in separate incidents on Thursday. 

A pedestrian in his 40s was fatally injured following a collision with a car which occurred on the M8 Motorway northbound at Carrigane, Mitchelstown on Saturday night. 

A man in his 40s was also killed following a collision involving a heavy goods vehicle in Ballycotton around 3:30pm on Thursday evening. 

Only just hours later, a young woman aged in her 20s was pronounced deceased at the scene after her bike collided with a truck in Cork city around 6pm on Thursday evening.
