Since the tragic news broke out, tributes have been pouring in for Ian.

"There are no words that I can offer that will ease the pain. I can only offer my deepest sympathies to Helen, Richard, Zoey, Myles and the many many people in his life who are feeling the enormity of life without him. I was so lucky to have known him in our younger years and have many happy memories which I will cherish always," wrote a friend in tribute.
"I really can't believe I'm writing this, but my deepest condolences to all of Ian's family. I had the pleasure of working with Ian for quite a while and I will never forget the laugh we used to have, thanks to his great sense of humour. Rest in peace Baits, you will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you - thanks for the happy memories," someone paid tribute.

"We, Ian’s family, wish to thank our extended family and friends for their unwavering help and support throughout this hard time, Arian and Liam whose heroic efforts kept Ian with us so we were able to say our goodbyes, to his great friends Sarah and Gary for being constantly by his side for days that followed, Ian’s friends who travelled home from abroad to say their last goodbyes and to the staff of the ICU ward, the paramedics, gardai, surgeons and nursing staff who helped prepare us for the devastating loss of a beautiful and wonderful person," wrote the family in his obituary.

The father of two died on Tuesday afternoon at Cork University Hospital (CUH), following the assault, which occurred on Friday night at approximately 8.55pm in a car park on Newtown road.
