Man killed in Cobh sword attack named locally

The man who was killed after a sword attack in Cork has been named locally.

Ian Baitson, aged 33, was critically injured in a sword attack in Cobh, Co Cork, last Friday.

The father of one died this Tuesday afternoon at Cork University Hospital (CUH), following the assault, which occurred on Friday night at approximately 8.55pm in a car park on Newtown road.

An incident room has been established at Cobh Garda Station.

A family liaison officer has also been appointed to keep the family of the dead man updated.

A post-mortem examination will take place on Wednesday.

Gardai are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
