Taylor Swift leads nominations for American Music Awards with eight

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is the most nominated artist at this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs) with eight nods.

The 36-year-old is nominated for artist of the year, album of the year and best pop album for her 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl, released in October last year, and song of the year for the record’s lead single The Fate Of Ophelia, in the nominations list announced on Tuesday.

Swift, who has won 40 AMAs, the most of any artist in the awards’ history, is also nominated for best music video and best pop song for The Fate Of Ophelia, song of the summer for Elizabeth Taylor, and best female pop artist.

The second most nominated artists, with seven each, are country star Morgan Wallen, US pop star Sabrina Carpenter, who collaborated with Swift on her latest album, New York-born singer Sombr, and Olivia Dean, who is the most nominated British act having taken home four gongs at this year’s Brit Awards.

Dean and Sombr, whose real name is Shane Boose, are nominated for the first time, with the pair going up against each other in the new artist of the year, song of the year, and breakthrough album of the year categories.

Wallen and Carpenter will face off against Swift for artist of the year while the Espresso singer will also take on Swift in categories including album of the year for her record Man’s Best Friend, as well as best music video and song of the year for Manchild.

Other British acts nominated alongside Dean include Brat star Charli XCX, whose Wuthering Heights album is nominated for best soundtrack, while former One Direction star Harry Styles and singer PinkPantheress both have three nods each.

The singing voices of Huntr/x from Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, have also been nominated in three categories – song of the year, best vocal performance and best pop song – for their UK number one song Golden.

The winners will be announced at the 52nd awards ceremony, hosted by rapper Queen Latifah at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on Monday May 25.
