Rob Brydon to host the UK adaptation of the quiz show The Floor

Actor and comedian Rob Brydon will host the UK adaptation of the quiz show, The Floor.

The Welsh star, 60, known for Would I Lie To You? and Gavin & Stacey, will front ITV’s new primetime version of the hit high-stakes series which will see 81 contestants face off in “quiz duels” on an LED floor.

Originating in the Netherlands, the gameshow is centred around its lit-up floor which is divided into 81 equal squares – each representing a field of knowledge.

Contestants must challenge an adjoining opponent to play against them in the category of their opponent’s square, with the winner taking over the square and gaining more ground while the loser is forced to leave the game.

Brydon will command The Floor over 10 episodes, guiding contestants and audiences through the competition until there is only one person left standing to claim the cash prize of £50,000.

He said: “The Floor is a quiz show like no other – big, bold, and bursting with excitement.

“I’m thrilled to be stepping onto it and guiding the contestants through the competition. Let’s light up the floor!”

The programme format has seen adaptations take off around the world including in Australia, Poland and Spain.

Katie Rawcliffe, director of entertainment, reality & daytime commissioning at ITV, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the hilarious national treasure that is Rob Brydon to the ITV family and he is undoubtedly the perfect host for this brand new primetime quiz.”

The award-winning actor is known for playing Uncle Bryn in the hit BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey and previously presented his own late-night chat show, titled The Rob Brydon Show.

He is also known for hosting Destination X, a reality competition series which sees contestants attempt to work out the mystery location they have been brought to through a series of clues.
